Enhancements to Make FaceTime Calls Feel More Natural

FaceTime is more important than ever, allowing users to stay in touch with the ones that matter the most. FaceTime audio and visual features have been updated to make calls feel more realistic and lifelike. Voices in a Group FaceTime chat sound like they're coming from the direction the person is positioned on the screen thanks to spatial audio. 1 Voice Isolation, a new microphone setting, employs machine learning to filter out background noise and prioritize the user's voice, whereas Wide Spectrum lets every bit of background sound through. Portrait mode in FaceTime blurs a user's surroundings and puts them in the spotlight, inspired by the breathtaking portrait images shot on iPhone. Third-party apps like Webex, Zoom, and WhatsApp can also benefit from Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum, and Portrait mode. In a new grid view, Group FaceTime allows you to display members in same-size tiles.

FaceTime calls can now be joined from a web browser on Android or Windows smartphones, in addition to Apple devices. FaceTime calls made via the web are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that privacy is not jeopardized. iPhone, iPad, and Mac users just create a FaceTime link and share it using Messages, Calendar, Mail, or third-party apps to begin the call, making it easier than ever to connect with friends and family.

SharePlay will launch later this fall, giving users a new way to share experiences with friends and family while on a FaceTime chat, such as listening to music together, watching a TV show or movie together, working out together, or sharing their screen to access apps. Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Fitness+, as well as Disney+, ESPN+, HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Paramount+, Pluto TV, SoundCloud, TikTok, Twitch, and many other apps, will all operate with SharePlay. SharePlay is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and it features shared playback controls that allow everyone in a SharePlay session to play, pause, or skip ahead. SharePlay even works with Apple TV, allowing users to enjoy episodes and movies on a huge screen.
